IT Applications Engineer (Greater Belfast)

We are working with a major client.  They have an urgent requirement for an Application Support professional to join their team.  You will work with modern technologies and see the impact of what you do within the wider business.

The IT Applications Engineer will support the development and implementation of a range of applications to support the delivery of innovative programmes.  Your role will be varied and you will be involved in design, development, integration, testing and training as well as the ongoing support and enhancement of the system.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To provide second and third line support of a wide range of business applications.
  • Liaise with and manage support from external 3rd party suppliers and contractors, including contract reviews and SLA tracking and reporting
  • Call logging, prioritisation and tracking numerous issues of varying severity and effectively managing the resolution of all externally supplied and in-house developed applications;
  • Meeting with users throughout the Group to determine requirements and discuss issues.

Essential Criteria

  • An engineering/IT degree or equivalent with proven applications analyst experience
  • Previous support role experience
  • Previous experience working with and supporting business-critical systems.
  • Excellent decision making skills and an ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Experience working with MS Office tools (including advanced Excel skills, SQL, MS Project and Visio or equivalent).


Desirable Criteria

  • Working knowledge of change management.
  • technical report writing capability
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with FORTRAN, C, C++, Perl and/or Python scripting
  • Experience of Oracle, PL/SQL and XML
